As long as you stay out of cages, you can be a ';free range'; anything you want.

But if you mean that the subjects have to be ';free range,'; then that is the definition of wildlife.

In other words, ALL wildlife photographers are ';free range'; wildlife photographers.

Practice your ';hunting'; techniques. If you have the equipment, try to get good at capturing the local, urban wildlife. What kind of images can you get of hawks, deer, wild turkey, squirills, robins, gophers, etc. Until you can capture good images of these kind of animal, you can't expect to do any better at photographing elk, tigers, eagles, bears, sharks, elephants or mustangs.

Study up on animal behavior. The more you know about your subject, the better you will be at predicting thier behavior and being in the right place to take the picture. Study up on photography. The more you know about the ';science'; of taking pictures, the better you will be at knowing the ';art'; of the kind of images you want to capture.

Don't limit your studies to the equipment you have. Study ';ahead of the curve'; so that when it comes time to make major equipment purchases, you will KNOW exactly what you need.I want too be a free range wildlife photographer?
Well, get a camera and go take pictures. It all about practice. You can take photography in college if you want to.
