Which week is known as wildlife week?

In Britain: NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEK

31st May to 21st June 2008

In Canada it was: Celebrate National Wildlife Week!

April 8 to 14, 2007

and

National Wildlife Week (NWW) was proclaimed by an Act of Parliament in 1947. It takes place each year in the week surrounding April 10, the birth date of Jack Miner 鈥?a late-great pioneer of Canada鈥檚 conservation movement. NWW is more than a memorial to just one man and his work. It is time to pay tribute to our country鈥檚 natural heritage and to actively contribute to the conservation of wildlife through school and public education programs nationwide. Each year CWF selects a wildlife-related theme and develops education and awareness materials for educators and the public. A different conservation theme is addressed every year, such as water resources, community action, biodiversity, sustainability, shoreline habitat, or endangered species recovery. Find out more about this year鈥檚 theme.

What's your favorite wildlife recipe?

What is meant by natural wildlife and vegetation? I want a very very long answer.?

vegetation-

Vegetation is a general term for the plant life of a region; it refers to the ground cover provided by plants. It is a general term, without specific reference to particular taxa, life forms, structure, spatial extent, or any other specific botanical or geographic characteristics. It is broader than the term flora which refers exclusively to species composition. Perhaps the closest synonym is plant community, but vegetation can, and often does, refer to a wider range of spatial scales than that term does, including scales as large as the global. Primeval redwood forests, coastal mangrove stands, sphagnum bogs, desert soil crusts, roadside weed patches, wheat fields, cultivated gardens and lawns; all are encompassed by the term vegetation.

wildlife---

Wildlife includes all non-domesticated plants, animals, and other organisms. Domesticating wild plant and animal species for human benefit has occurred many times all over the planet, and has a major impact on the environment, both positive and negative.

Wildlife can be found in all ecosystems, Deserts, rainforests, plains, and other areas鈥攊ncluding the most developed urban sites鈥攁ll have distinct forms of wildlife. While the term in popular culture usually refers to animals that are untouched by human factors, most scientists agree that wildlife around the world is impacted by human activities.

Humans have historically tended to separate civilization from wildlife in a number of ways including the legal, social, and moral sense. This has been a reason for debate throughout recorded history. Religions have often declared certain animals to be sacred, and in modern times concern for the natural environment has provoked activists to protest the exploitation of wildlife for human benefit or entertainment. Literature has also made use of the traditional human separation from wildlife.

Hope this helps!!

Im 13 and really love wildlife. but i can't find any way to be involved in my wildlife community. help me?!

There are no Wilife shelters in my local town, i don't have the space at home to become a foster parent, and i'm too young to get an animal related job, or any job for that matter! I feel like I was born to help animals, but i'm too young to do anything! Any suggestions will be greatly apreciated.Im 13 and really love wildlife. but i can't find any way to be involved in my wildlife community. help me?!
some suggestions:

coz you're still very young it's good for you to learn a lot of things about the animals and wildlife..doing research and yeah learning a lot of things of course.. so it will be a great things for you when your age is enough..

going to camping.. maybe it would be nice too..

find another community around your town.. the nearby town if it's available..

yeah you can start to help the animals around your places like dogs, birds, cats, etc..

good luck baby..Im 13 and really love wildlife. but i can't find any way to be involved in my wildlife community. help me?!
I would just stick with pets for right now- get some exotic pets or help at the humane society.

As for wildlife shelters, in most states you need to be at least 18 yrs due to liability reasons. You also can not become a foster parent legally until 16-18 as well.

All I can suggest is try to gain as much animal experience as you can (livestock even). Learning how to work around all different sizes of animals without being apprehensive can really help you later in life. I train summer interns at the zoo I work at and you can tell instantly who grew up with just cats and dogs, and who had more experience (farms for example). Plus, the animals can tell as well and will bite more often if you are not completely comfortable with them.

Please do not pick up animals on the side of the road, it is illegal in most states to possess wildlife, and even bringing a threatened or endangered animal to a rehab center can get you in big trouble. Plus, if you are not sure of the exact species, you will not know about it's behavior or defenses. Also, if you are not vaccinated for rabies, you do not want to be touching sick looking mammals anyways.
study and research get as much info as possible and when you are old enough you will be a great asset to your furry friends. maybe you can do volunteer work at a shelter this summer or help in a local park.
You are never, ever to young to help animals. If you see a animal on the side of the road tell your parent to stop and take it to somewhere safe. Also Bring food ad anything that the shelter needs. Helping animals isn't always and it isn't always working with animals
well in the summer, you can go camping and stuff in the wilderness and take hikes and stuff and you can through bird feed on the ground cause they just love it and it makes them happy and stuff and just bring like carrots for beeding deer and stuff and just try and be there friends, when you get older you can volenteer yourself at the SPCA. I no this has nothing to do wiht your question but I live arounda bunch of tree's and my nabour some how got this big buck deer to trust him and ever once in a while he would visit and my nabour would go outside and pet him and sit with him and feed him apples and they were like sorta buddys I have no clue how he did it though!!!
I know EXACTLY what you mean, I'm 13 and going crazy for the same reason. I've applied to every animal shelter, wildlife refuge, and environmental conservation organizations in like a 50 mile radius of my house, but I'm too young. Try to find a chapter of FFA, i am the vice president of mine and we do TONS of animal activities, I'm even going to get a pet cow! Most organizations want someone at least 16, so until then, look into FFA or 4H.

Do u know about endangered wildlife trade?? If u know, what for?? Any idea to decrease it??

report it report it report it,if you know about it contact your local MNR or Wildlife Officer, unfortunately many states have weak or no laws prohibiting the breeding and sale of endangered animals.these animals are kept in little more than' Puppy Mills' There was just a case in Thunder Bay Ont were a guy had a Canadian Lynx as a pet had it declawed he has been charged $1000.00 but is refusing to tell were he bought the cat from other than from the states.

  • Wildlife Photography?

I want to be wildlife photographer. Anyone have any suggestions for colleges that offer degrees in this area? I have found many colleges with photography majors, and i hear of a fantastic one in California but i cannot seem to remember the name. Brooks Institute? Or University of Santa Barbara?Wildlife Photography?
NOT UCSB ... Brooks is in Santa Barbara ... Art Center is in Pasadena

One of the alum from Brooks has made a wonderful career as a nature photographer ... George Lepp has two websites and has workshops and institute of photography dedicated to wildlife photography. Visit them and send him an email with your plans for the future. There is no specific degree in wildlife photography. What these schools to is teach you how to get perfectly exposed images, any time, anywhere in the world, using any camera (yours or someone else's, film or digital) under any lighting conditions. After that, it is up to you what subjects you shoot and which equipment you choose and how you use it.Wildlife Photography?
Wildlife photography is a specialty that you attain by choice not a specialized photography classes. Any schools that offer photography classes will help you as a photographer. They'll teach you all the aspect you need to learn - lighting, composition, etc...

What is going to help you as a wildlife photographer is by taking Animal Studies courses. You need to understand your subject to understand your pictures. How you're going to tell a story if you don't understand their behaviors. Random shots are good, too, but then all you need is a camera and money to go to those wildlife sanctuary.
Check Otis art college.. it's here in los angeles and has alot of art courses, I had a feeling I'd go there sinec i was really young. Check that one out :)

    What's the best animal/wildlife?

    That has entered your garden?

    What's the best animal/wildlife?
It might not sound very exciting, but we get lovely birds in our garden - lots of bluetits, and robins, and a great big blackbird! I get a lot of pleasure watching them from our kitchen window! What's the best animal/wildlife?
1)Tis the strangest thing. First come some bird who brought me morning glory of so many different shade that just appeared out of nowhere.

2)Then hahaha Mr. Squirelly and a whole troupe of family and friends who would put on live wire acts for me and we would take turns laughing and barking and throwing nuts at each other.

    3) Then the Cardinal came as all this other creatures... well haha tis dizzying as I can't tell which be more remarkable while this funny mocking bird I haven't seen yet but hear all the time singing and wala...

    4) Then the summer when the rains come and so many odd little happenings as the water was shockingly unusually sweet one beautiful morn on the day the very ground was electrical and rich with slug and worm and pop pop went haha manhole covers flying in the air nearly killing people as they flying into trees and cars but thank god there was no reports of anyone being hurt. Oh but then omg... so many birds as I had never seen before as there was a carpet of them everywhere... scared me at first for I had never seen anything like it and they woundn't even scatter as they usually do. Was the strangest thing as in the sky well, was the same as below. I must got caught somehow during some kind of migrating thing but no... this was too unusual I swear. But there was this single one that came just before the rest arrived that I smell the ocean on his wings and not even 5 minutes after an ocean of white foamy birdfeather as far as the eye could see haha some hopping up and down my doorstep as if trying to get in. I was shocked.

    5) Then the Dragon... The Dragon fly came and though I was able to catch both that and the Cardinal with my lens, well I am sorry I didn't have my camera that amazing Indian Summer when the birds were like an ocean's foamy froth on the very ground. Haha the man from Korea thought I was nuts as I went to him... OMG... DO YOU SEE THIS??? WTF? And he shocked me too cuz he was like, ya? so? haha Holy Makarena. I still in shock just to see such a site as that. But the Dragon fly ahaha I still laughing bout him. Well I think it was a him. I dunno.

quite a few other amazing, unbelievable treasures but I still be... well, in the oddest of states over it if you can imagine. wow. I still trying to catch my very breath back from those few alone.
    Giraffe - I'm from Namibia
a robin seems to have made his home there so that's the best, nice to see him hopping around in the morning.

    Wildlife Biologist Qualifications?

What GCSE's and Higher's do you need to be a Wildlife Biologist?Wildlife Biologist Qualifications?
Most wildlife biologist complete a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science, Wildlife Management, or something similar and then they do a master's in wildlife biology as well. There is one organization, The Wildlife Society (www.wildlife.org), that certifies people as wildlife biologists by a combination of course work and work experience.

Honestly though, to get a job as a wildlife biologist you should have a great academic record but even more importantly you need experience in the field. While in college it is very imporant to be active in the student chapter of The Wildlife Society, volunteer to help graduate students and professors out on their research, and intern or work part time if possible. The field is competitive and having the experience will help you land a job!

Why should we preserve our wildlife?

    Biodiversity.

Biodiversity refers to the incredible variety of life found in our planet. In the book Biodiversity II, Edward O. Wilson defines biodiversity as: ';all hereditarily based variations at all levels of organization, from the genes within a single local population or species, to the species composing all or part of a local community, and finally to the communities themselves that compose the living parts of the multifarious ecosystems of the world.'; Life on earth is so diverse that we really have no idea how many species there are. Estimates range between 5 million and 30 million, but some biologists believe the figure may be as high as 100 million. Biodiversity is central to our existence. We derive much of the food we eat from species that were once wild, and we continue to rely on wild species to genetically improve domestic varieties of corn, tomatoes, and other food staples. We also use plants and animals found in natural ecosystems to develop new drugs for the treatment of various diseases. In addition, biodiversity provides us with many ammenities, such as bird-watching, ecotourism, fishing, and others. Despite the value of biodiversity to humans, we are currently destroying natural ecosystems at such a rate that many biologists fear that in a few decades we will cause an unprecedented number of extinctions. We are so far from cataloguing the diversity of life on Earth that an unknown number of animals and plants will become extinct and we'll never know what we lost. This is especially true of tropical forests and coral reefs, which we are losing particularly fast. These ecosystems are mostly in developing countries, which face many important challenges related to high debt burdens, poverty, social inequality, and population growth. Despite the grim outlook in some areas, there are many ongoing efforts to help preserve our natural heritage. Below you will find essays related to biodiversity, links to web sites with lots of information about what you can do to help save biodiversity, and some really good references if you want to read more about this subject.

    ';This Cosmos, so marvelous to those with eyes to see, is reduced to dullness by a blind and egotistical preoccupation with material things. Soon the horse and pig on the one hand, and wheat and potatoes on the other, will replace all these hundreds, these thousands of creatures - animal and vegetable - that God has created to live among us....They have the right to life and we annihilate them and brutally make existence impossible for them....It is unbelievable that the Creator could have placed so many diverse organisms on the earth, each one so admirable in its sphere, so perfect in its role, only to permit man, his masterpiece, to destroy them forever.';

Why should we preserve our wildlife?
it is right for the earth
Smoked game tastes better and lasts longer.
    for food later
We preserve it so that the earths ecosystem doesn't get disrupted.
    For future hunting
If we don't, all kinds of disasters to our eco system could result.

Don't look to our pres. He doesn't what a science book is.
Use Ur Head Dummy.... So Our Resources Dont Run Out And To Protect The Wildlife Around it
If our wildlife can flourish on the planet, so can we.
very important, these are the only thing next to nature that we can share as a ';treasure'; to the future generations for them to see and conquer.(';,)
Because of the circle of life.
To allow wildlife to live long enough for our children, grandchildren, and future generations to see them!
    cuz they taste like chicken.
Because sayings like, ';where the bear sh*ts'; wouldn't make sense otherwise.

    (and also to eat them)

Wildlife conservation in southasia and success met?

sorry, but your question is far too vague for me.

you need to be a little more specific with your questions. add some details and see kiddo.........

    bye

and don't forget to eat ya veggies ok

EDIT: to the guy below me , cobra, sorry but dude i think he's looking for something helpful for his homework. sorry ,. though yeah i too love orang utans they are so cute ;-)Wildlife conservation in southasia and success met?
As far as I know the whole of Asia is failing dismally in their efforts to conserve wildlife.

I know Malaysia is in SE Asia, but look at the pathetic attempts to save Orangutans there - de-forestation and factory-forest-farming for palm oil, out of control forest fires and people who still eat Orangutans, or kill the mothers when they are driven out of the forest so they can sell their babies.

Details change, but it is the same all over, and don't even get me started on China (I know it's not S Asia again, sorry) where you can go to an animal show and pay extra so you can watch a Tiger and Wolf put in the ring together. Or visit a ';factory'; where they harvest fluids from bears gall bladder's by strapping them on a table with a catheter inserted in their bodies for their entire lives.

Sorry to have got off the point.

Probably so, it may be stalled a bit.. but i think it is like the surfers that get attacked by a shark, when they heal they go right back out and do it some more.

Umm... I kind of want to say no but i'm not sure.... I wouldn't if I were her. I'd be scared to death

    Wildlife conservation?

What is the job opportunities for wildlife conservation in South Africa? What is wildlife conservation actually all about? Is it lab work or field work?Wildlife conservation?
Wildlife conservation is a field that varies widely. Saying you want to go into wildlife conservation is sort of like saying ';I want to go into the vacuum cleaner industry.'; There are a lot of facets, including awareness-raising organizations (such as the Sierra Club), legislation work (writing it or lobbying), rehabilitation, enforcement (working as a park ranger), and actually studying the animals to learn how to better protect them.

Conservation biology sounds like what you're asking about: that would be the last item on that list in the previous paragraph. You could also study applied ecology or wildlife management, depending on if you want to study ecosystems or specific animals.

I would say that studying wildlife would probably be mostly in-field, but there would probably be a lot of reporting and lab-like work. You may perform a necropsy on a dead animal to analyze stomach contents, or you may test animal blood and stools.

I am good at biology i am interested in wildlife , and i wanted to know about any careers in this stream?

Unless you hook up with a really, really successful consulting firm, most of the jobs are government ones. Check out the US Fish %26amp; Wildlife Service and your states game department for an idea of what the opportunities are. Generally, the pay is, at best, so-so but the benefits are quite good.I am good at biology i am interested in wildlife , and i wanted to know about any careers in this stream?
Nice to hear that you are interested in wildlife.I can make you aware of some important avenues..

1.Those with Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the intermediate level can go for B.Sc Forestry course. Further the masters level offers specialisation in subjects like Forest Management, Commercial Forestry, Forest Economics, Wood Science %26amp; Technology, Wildlife Science, Veterinary Science etc. There are various people who work in forest and wild life conservation. For example, foresters, dendrologists, ethologists, entomologists, silviculturists (forest propagation and culture), forest range officers, zoo curators etc.

2.The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) saves wildlife and wild places worldwide. From field science and conservation policy to non-profit management and park operations, career opportunities at WCS are as diverse as their work. Together, WCS鈥檚 nearly 4,000 staff members in New York City and around the world work to change attitudes toward nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans living in harmony. If you鈥檙e talented and committed to making a difference for wildlife and wild places, they would like you to join their efforts.

Most wildlife-related careers require at least a bachelor's degree and many require advanced degrees such as a Masters of Science or Ph.D.

    go with your interests!

In a paragraph, write the possible impacts on other wildlife species, on humans, and on the environment.?

Global warming is caused not by emissions of GHG from transportation %26amp; industries as world's belief %26amp; understanding but by carbon loss from organic matter like in the soil, plants %26amp; forests. Earth has 60% desertified soils (based on Millennium Development datum as of 2005) and therefore, the carbon from agriculture %26amp; forests as its major component is hovering %26amp; trapped in the atmosphere. Other than this, decay microorganisms (releasing CO2) amplify warming too since they are dominant at temperatures from 25 to 40 degrees Celsius over photosynthetic microbes at temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. Unprocessed GHG by the handicap nature (abandoned agriculture %26amp; forests, rendering no natural gas process in photosynthesis) threatens life (man, animals, birds, sea creatures, plants %26amp; forests) and hence, the only way to fight global warming %26amp; climate change is to extensively reproduce %26amp; regenerate O2 by all in the world. The adequacy %26amp; abundance of O2 cools climate (vs. climate change), repairs O3 layer (vs. severe UV sun rays), rebuilds glaciers (vs. melting of ice caps), strengthens the immune system of organisms (vs. epidemic or pandemic) and many more.

    Whats your favourite wildlife documentary?

it has to be Life on Earth: A Natural History by David Attenborough

    Gorilla encounter:

The most famous sequence occurs in the twelfth episode, when Attenborough encounters a group of mountain gorillas in Dian Fossey's sanctuary in Rwanda. The primates had become used to humans through years of being studied by researchers. Attenborough originally intended merely to get close enough to narrate a piece about the apes' use of the opposable thumb, but as he advanced on all fours toward the area where they were feeding, he suddenly found himself face to face with an adult female. Discarding his scripted speech, he turned to camera and delivered a whispered ad lib:

';There is more meaning and mutual understanding in exchanging a glance with a gorilla than with any other animal I know. Their sight, their hearing, their sense of smell are so similar to ours that they see the world in much the same way as we do. We live in the same sort of social groups with largely permanent family relationships. They walk around on the ground as we do, though they are immensely more powerful than we are. So if there were ever a possibility of escaping the human condition and living imaginatively in another creature's world, it must be with the gorilla. The male is an enormously powerful creature but he only uses his strength when he is protecting his family and it is very rare that there is violence within the group. So it seems really very unfair that man should have chosen the gorilla to symbolise everything that is aggressive and violent, when that is the one thing that the gorilla is not 鈥?and that we are.';Whats your favourite wildlife documentary?
animal planetWhats your favourite wildlife documentary?
Blue Planet- The best one in the series is ';Open Ocean of the Deep.'; They go into the ultimate depths of the ocean the the craziest ocean species I have ever seen.

    Very awesome
David Attenborough- Life of mammals series. There are a lot of cool facts and footage. I got my new favorite animal from that series- the Pangolin!
Anything with David Attenborough narrating as he is a legend. He is such a lucky person to go everywhere and see all these animals and different countries. I want the life collection for christmas its got loads of series by him if anyone is interested.
well i like any really but preferably mammal, and ocean life come can be boring
Blue Planet, Planet Earth or Life of Mammals.

They're in a league of their own.
i like the crocodile hunter! steve irwin really knows his wildlife!! it was so sad when he died!!! but his show really gets me watching!! i love it!!
    Life of Birds!
';Lions and Hyenas: Eternal Enemies'; National Geographic. 1993.
There was a Japanese one from when I was a little girl- called, ';The Glacier Fox';, which followed the lives of a family of foxes in harsh island environment for a year. I can still picture the individual animals, hear the music, and remember the ending. They brought the animals to life without making them too ';human';. Amazing filming and footwork. You should check it out if you can find it anywhere.
    The Sapranos.
Well I would have to say that anything with Sir David Attenborough gets my vote.... Life of Mammals, Life of Birds, Planet Earth they are all excellent documentaries about wildlife and nature. I especially like the bird ones because avians are so diverse and interesting the last one I watched was about communication and mating displays, they showed a bird that could perfectly mimic any sounds it heard in the forest and incorporated the sounds into a mating serenade/dance to attract mates. The bird made the sound of 2 different camera shutters, a car alarm, a saw and most surprisingly a chainsaw!! which almost didnt seem real when emanating from this amazing bird.

Another favorite documentary of mine is National Geographic ';Return of the Wolves'; which documents the incredible lives of the so-named ';Druid Peak Pack'; wolves and what happened when they were reintroduced to Yellowstone Park. I always have loved to learn about wolves and it was incredible to see what an amazing comeback they had and how positively they influenced the ecosystem in Yellowstone.... Also the wolves are from Canada!! so I feel almost like they are my fellow Canadians...LOL Cheesy I know! But still it was an incredible documentary and it truly showed the way wolves really are instead of all the rumour and superstition that most people spew when they know nothing about these amazing carnivores. It was a truly educational and inspiring documentary. Check it out here.... http://www.nationalgeographic.com/tv/spe鈥?/a>
I'll go with Blue Planet - it was pretty special.

I do miss the old ITV Survival programmes thought, they were good.

  • If the World Wildlife Fun (WWF) had been around longer than the World Wrestling Federation, (WWF)?

Why did they wait so long to sue the World Wrestling Federation for the copyright infringmentIf the World Wildlife Fun (WWF) had been around longer than the World Wrestling Federation, (WWF)?
Actually, they had an agreement, but the WWE violated it:

In 2000, the World Wildlife Fund (also WWF), an environmental organization now called the World Wide Fund for Nature, sued the World Wrestling Federation. A British court agreed that Titan Sports had violated a 1994 agreement which had limited the permissible use of the WWF initials overseas, particularly in merchandising.[10]

On Sunday May 5, 2002, the company quietly changed all references on its website from ';WWF'; to ';WWE';, while switching the URL from WWF.com to WWE.com. The next day, a press release announced the official name change from World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. to World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., or WWE, and the change was publicized later that day during a telecast of Monday Night Raw, which emanated from the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut. For a short time, WWE used the slogan ';Get The 'F' Out.';[11] The company had also been ordered by court to stop using the old WWF Attitude logo on any of its properties and to censor all past references to WWF, as they no longer owned the trademark to the initials WWF in 'specified circumstances'.[12] However, despite litigation, WWE is still permitted use of the original WWF logo, which was used from 1984 through 1997, as well as the ';New WWF Generation'; logo, which was used from 1994 through 1998. Furthermore, the company may still make use of the full ';World Wrestling Federation'; and ';World Wrestling Federation Entertainment'; names without consequence. If the World Wildlife Fun (WWF) had been around longer than the World Wrestling Federation, (WWF)?
World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment) founded in 1952.

World Wildlife Fund (now World Wide Fund for Nature) founded in 1961.
A court in Europe ruled in favor of the World Wildlife Fund. So World Wrestling Federation had to change to World Wrestling Entertainment. WWE has moved on from it and so should you.

World Wrestling Federation was founded in 1952.

World Wide Fund was founded in 1961.

Why did Vince lost the trial? I don't really know..
That's a very good question! I hate it that they made them change the name after all of those years...it was ridiculous. But I'm used to WWE now...I thought I wouldn't get used to it but it looks good and maybe even better now...WWF or WWE

    I don't know...

But yeah, they just decided to sue because they were going to do more advertising and everything and they wanted to use WWF.

I hate it when people still call it WWF, too.

Does anyone know of any zoo's or wildlife park in mainland Uk who keep Ligers?

my kids don't believe that ligers are real animals and I want to show them oneDoes anyone know of any zoo's or wildlife park in mainland Uk who keep Ligers?
    ummmmm...

i go to Whipsnade zoo every week with my boys (season pass) and I'm sorry to say that like your kids I've never heard of a Liger???

..........errr do you mean Tiger??Does anyone know of any zoo's or wildlife park in mainland Uk who keep Ligers?
    chester zoo keep tigers
Shepreth Wildlife Park, in Cambridgeshire, definately have tigers - I've taken my kids a few times x
Phone a zoo or wildlife park they should be able to help Good Luck
Sorry - I don't think there are any in the UK. This is because although in our homes we can keep pretty much whatever we want (including ludicrous animals like tigers and crocodiles, due to our pathetic liscensing system - or lack of), zoos are quite well regulated and most of them are looking towards conservation. Crossing a lion with a tiger is completely useless when it comes to conservation - there you have an animal with no purpose other than to be big and impressive.

There are however some pictures on Google of people hugging ligers, show your kids some pictures. Don't give money to a zoo who produces stupid hybrids for selfish reasons.
Yay Ligers! I really want to see one. or a Tigon.

There doesn't seem to be anywhere in the UK but there are zoos around europe. like noahs ark in germany.
I think i saw one at West Midlands Safari park. Its in Worcestershire. Tel 01299 402114
Here are some links to zoo's and wildlife parks that have tigers.

    Hope this helps.
If a Liger is a cross between a male Lion and a female Tiger, and a Tigon is a cross between a male Tiger and a female Lion, would a cross between a human male and a female monkey be a MANKEY, and would a cross between a woman and a male monkey be a WONKEY?

For those of you who find my question distasteful, I agree, and apologise sincerely!
Those are pretty much not real.
none in the uk but you can print him a picture of one or take him abroad.

    http://www.bigcatrescue.org/ligers
A liger is a cross between a lion and tiger, person above me.

No I don't know any in the UK, I would love to see one too!

They have white lions and tigers at Paradise Park in Hertfordshire, though.
http://www.sierrasafarizoo.com/animals/l鈥?/a> show them this link. Since I don't live in UK, I don't know any zoo's that keep ligers and tigons, or some other animals of that kind. Show them these pictures. There is also a little information about ligers. I really hope I helped, I really do. bye _
I hope none. No biologist or respected zoologist would ever cross breed a lion and a tiger. Sad.

It has been done in private wildlife parks. Only reason to do it is to make money. There's a term for that, exploitation. These are sad messed up people.

Is there any wildlife in Hawaii?

If so how did it get there? If not was everything man planted there(forest ect..) Just curiousIs there any wildlife in Hawaii?
Everything that occurs naturally in Hawaii either arrived by swimming or flying, or as a result of evolution from something that swam or flew. What ends up on an island is more or less random, as some species in Hawaii are found on only one or a few of the islands, and nowhere else in the world. Islands like Hawaii are used to test theories on evolution and ecology because of the limited ways that species can colonize an island, and the way the ecosystem responds when a new species arrives. Today, there are all sorts of things recently introduced by humans - mosquitoes, cats, goats, pigs, rats, ants, and all sorts of plants. Is there any wildlife in Hawaii?
There are birds and fish which got here by flying and swimming, respectively. The other land animals were brought here at one time or another. So there are wild boar, deer and mongoose for example. There are no snakes or rabid animals in Hawaii.
    there are hawaiiens

and the island was born from volcanic eruptions

all the life on it came later ,introduced by man or it swam or flew there

so there are birds that are wild ,maybe pogs that escaped

and there must a lot of stuff like iguannas ,and insects

hawaii to start of with was vocanic rock

coconuts washed ashore started the soil of and visiting birds introduced more vegetation with the seeds that were in their bellies

needs a Hawaiien to answer this ,one that is not too wild.
Depends which club you go to. j/k Lots of natural wild life in Hawaii that was there before the advent of man.

Poarchers-----earth threat wildlife. what do you say about this?

details----an article about this will be useful to me.Poarchers-----earth threat wildlife. what do you say about this?
I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Poachers are a threat to wildlife. Just look at the Bushmeat trade in Africa for examples.Poarchers-----earth threat wildlife. what do you say about this?
to hell with the poachers!! they are a big threat to wildlife. I'm a vegatarian and still would eat a poacher. bastards.
I think its not a good thing... But, in the bible it says, we can eat meat, that have both split hoofs, and chew its cud..And fish that have scales and fins, only.... I could really go into this subject with you, alot, but, I'll shorten it by reading the book of Deuteronomy.. Clean %26amp; unclean foods, exceptable foods... And it all makes sense... Poachers, make all kinds of money, by killing inocent elephants, without any kind of pain killer, first just for their ivory! Breaks my heart. Then, you have tons of boats all over the world crab, and lobster hunting.... Did you know all crustations, are there, because God put them there to clean the oceans, floors, and people who kill innocent monkeys, for their brains, that sell them as an afadesiac!! Its all cruel and just flat out insane!! Animal cruelty activist need to get more involved, is all I can say about that!! Because, its with Tigers skins, you name it they'll poach it for money, without a care about the poor animals!! Sad world we live in isn't it ???!!!!!
The more species that are killed off ,affect the rest one the environment world.

Less meat for meat eating animals and the animal will be stressed and won't have as many babies. Less babies, more likely exstinction.

The are a number of factors to look at in evaluating the value of your 1985 Conservation Stamp gold dyes. Some things to consider would be the artist (Robert Bateman), the stamp being the first issue, the variety of bird (Mallard), the condition of the dyes, the gold dyes versus a traditional stamp and overall collectibility. The value may also vary depending if you are looking to resell or to insure the item.

As long as you stay out of cages, you can be a ';free range'; anything you want.

But if you mean that the subjects have to be ';free range,'; then that is the definition of wildlife.

In other words, ALL wildlife photographers are ';free range'; wildlife photographers.

Practice your ';hunting'; techniques. If you have the equipment, try to get good at capturing the local, urban wildlife. What kind of images can you get of hawks, deer, wild turkey, squirills, robins, gophers, etc. Until you can capture good images of these kind of animal, you can't expect to do any better at photographing elk, tigers, eagles, bears, sharks, elephants or mustangs.

Study up on animal behavior. The more you know about your subject, the better you will be at predicting thier behavior and being in the right place to take the picture. Study up on photography. The more you know about the ';science'; of taking pictures, the better you will be at knowing the ';art'; of the kind of images you want to capture.

Don't limit your studies to the equipment you have. Study ';ahead of the curve'; so that when it comes time to make major equipment purchases, you will KNOW exactly what you need.I want too be a free range wildlife photographer?
Well, get a camera and go take pictures. It all about practice. You can take photography in college if you want to.

I have field mice living underneath the fish pond (they so sweet) and Adders living underneath the wildlife pond (they not so sweet but leave me alone so long as i leave them alone!) There's loads of frogs and tadpoles in the wildlife too and in the evenings i sit quietly and watch the birds coming in to the bird table and to wash their feathers in the marginal of the fish pond.
We have quite a lot of squirrels as there are a lot of trees at the bottom of our garden. Through the winter they were burying food in our hanging baskets and garden tubs!

We also get quite a lot of different birds - magpies, wood pigeons, and even a little robin.

Only once, I saw a fox right at the bottom of the garden. I dont know who got the biggest fright!
Lizards, cute geckos, (we have a family of 5 living in our naya and believe it or not they call to each other), tree rats, similar to hamsters, but with tails. We have seen the odd non poisonous snake and some absolutely horrendous toads (these spit). Wild green parrots and other exotic birds.
we get those, also foxes (you want to see the fun we have getting our rabbit back in her hutch after tea), we get badgers and moles and a falcon comes occasionally, we have a robin that feeds off our hanging feeders (we will see the young babies soon, we did last year) We are lucky we live a stones throw from woods as we see so many species of bird.
Squirrels, robins, magpies, rats, mice, foxes鈥?pigeons, a woodpecker, and loads of creepy crawlies.
Squirrels, foxes, flying rats (aka pigeons), blue t its, chaffinches, gold finches, annoying starlings, hedgehogs, dead mice (presents from the cat)
Loads of baby starlings being fed and learning how to fend by the parents. Jackdaws, crows, rooks, wood pigeons, pigeons, sparrows, gulls...
Squirrels, crows, wood pigeons, robins and foxes.

  • Animals and wildlife?

Ok so here's the deal. I REALLY want to do something with animals. A career. Preferably wolves. I love wolves. I live in Ca and am planning to move to Utah, but don't know when. Anyway, how would i get into something like that? where do i go? I'll work at the zoo! Idc what it is, the only thing i wont do is surgery on the animals. i don't think i could stomach that, but anything else im good!Animals and wildlife?
Number One, training and experience. If you have experience working with pets or farm animals, then that will be considered when wanting to work with wild animals. On the job training is effective but spaces are usually very limited. Working with animals is a very popular career. Learning everything you can about the animals you want to work with is also very important. If possible, I would suggest doing some volunteer work at an animal shelter or something similar. And don't expect to go straight into working with wolves. They are dangerous animals, you need a lot of experience before you will be allowed anywhere near them in a professional capacity.Animals and wildlife?
Become a wildlife technician or a conservation officer
    You can be a zoologist!!
    Animal Illusionist like us!
if u want to have a career to do with wilves you could be a ranger at some wolf reserve.

We have seen no birds, suirrels, deer, or rabbits. We have seen a couple bees but that is it. We are talking 42 acres of no wildlife. Why could this be?Why no wildlife in park?
There have got to be birds there..birds inhabit every part of the planet. They are most active in the early morning, and late afternoon. If you are visiting in the heat of the day most birds and wildlife may be unactive and resting in shade. bushes, or burrows. Try going in the early morning and you are bound to see wildlife. Why no wildlife in park?
may be because the atmosphere doesn't support.
Either there has been a lot of hunting which made the animals shy away from this habitat, there may be too many people coming around, or there may be some kind of pesticide in use etc. Depending on how the park was built, the construction could have driven the animals away too.
They see you and leg it.
it could be really crowded or you could just be coming at the wrong time...keep trying or put some food out
That's odd, maybe all the animals even birds migrated.
Maybe you are looking in the wrong parts, or just at the wrong time. Or they could be scared of people and are hiding.
there is wildlife the animals are just scared and hiding form humans because ';they are more afraid of us then we are of them.'; thats why

Should there be tax or levy specifically to go toward protection/preservation/ of wildlife?

and restoration and management etc thier habitatShould there be tax or levy specifically to go toward protection/preservation/ of wildlife?
In some states portions of the sales tax contribute to habitat / wildlife protection -- in Maryland a slice of the sales tax is helping to save and restore the Chesapeake Bay!

Overall though I think what the federal government is collecting to sustain agencies like the DNR, National Park Service and the U.S. Fish %26amp; Wildlife Service is sufficient. It just needs to be better spent and without the interference of outside agencies and those engaging in ';pork barrel'; projects.

I do think that as issues and problems further develop (mostly due to Climate Change) we should allocate more funding and resources to aspects of our national habitats that become threatened.

Something to keep in mind: the war in Iraq costs $275 million a day-or-so; Bush allocated less than that to projects to help restore / clean the Great Lakes for the entire 2008 fiscal year.

Some has a very poor perspectives on what's important for the American people.Should there be tax or levy specifically to go toward protection/preservation/ of wildlife?
    No.

We pay enough taxes already. There are many conservation organizations and charities that do magnificent jobs helping protect wildlife. Let's rely on them.
Just mail them a check, maybe out of $100 you send in $1 would be used to do it, the other $99 would go to the bureaucrats. Anything the government touches they screw up, then expand it.
Much of the money comes from the sale of hunting and fishing Licenses. New tax and levy proceeds seem to get lost on their way to where their going.
Wildlife does not demand anything aditional for which taxes are to be imposed. Sympathy and love for wildlife costs nothing extra. Their destruction involves more cost than their protection.
the pittman-roberts tax on guns, and hunting supplies goes to just that. Most of the habitat andwetlands that we are now banned from were paid for by us.
Yes but from developers and other grants not collected forcibly through individual tax.
should there be a tax to keep people like you quiet?

  • Are wildlife rehabilitators REQUIRED to work with snakes?

To answer your question - no, wildlife rehabilitators are not required to work with any specific animal. They can decide what they will specialize in.

Contrary to what Jim said, however, Wildlife Rehabilitators ARE licensed. ';U.S. wildlife rehabilitators must hold permits or licenses from the state and federal governments. Other permits from local agencies may also be necessary.'; http://www.owra.org/becoming.htm

Also, rehabilitators do not run a business. They provide a service, for which they generally do not charge a fee. They rely on donations, and often contribute their own money as well as their time.

    And I disagree with another of Jim's statements. He said ';I am personally opposed to people taking injured wildlife and attempting to repair and rehab it. It is contrary to Nature. Also, wildlife belongs to the public, no one individual has more rights to any wildlife, for any reason, than anyone else.';

It is not contrary to nature. Humans have caused many of the problems, so it is right that humans endeavor to fix them. ';Contact between humans and wildlife grows daily as humans expand into or destroy wildlife habitat. In most cases, when humans and wildlife collide, wildlife suffers. Wildlife rehabilitation gives these wild

    animals a second chance to live free in their natural habitat.';

    http://www.ewildagain.org/pdf/RecBooklet鈥?/a>

Also, the rehabilitators do not OWN the animals they help. The license does not allow the rehabilitator to keep the animal as a pet. Thel icenses allow them to keep the wild animal only as long as it takes for the animal to become healthy enough for release back into the wild, where everyone can enjoy it. If they are caught keeping any animals that should have been released, they can be fined, just as any individual who keeps a wild animal with no permit.

Jim also states ';There are no rules, because they are not regulated.'; Wildlife rehabilitators are regulated by the state and federal governments. They also have their own professional associations - National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association (NWRA) and the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (IWRC) - that set standards for the care of wildlife.

It surprises me that Jim, who identifies himself as a biologist, does not know any of this. Are wildlife rehabilitators REQUIRED to work with snakes?
Absolutely not. All rehabbers seem to have their specialties and the Fish and Game and all the Rehabilitation organizations would prefer that you focus your energy on smaller groups of animals. Rehabbing can become very intense and you burn out fast by overdoing it.

I worked in a wildlife hospital and it was very overwhelming to deal with all species that came in.

In response to ';Jim';, rehabilitation is regulated and the federal fish and game issue licenses and we take exams in order to become licensed. Only certain facilities can take endangered species but any licensed rehabber can accept, treat and then transport any wild animal to those facilities. Are wildlife rehabilitators REQUIRED to work with snakes?
Not if they specialize in mammals or birds.

    Done.
No, generally rehabbers work on their own on whatever species they specialize in. When i went to call for rehabbers that worked on small animals there were lots in my area who each specialized in a specific type of animal (squirrels, possums, etc.)
No. Rehabilitators are not certified, licensed or even approved by any regulatory agency. Some states, in the USA, do have the Dept of Natural Resources issue a permit for keeping wildlife. It is actually illegal to keep wildlife, in any condition.

All of them are private cit zens running a private business. Therefore they can choose which animals they wish to ';rehabilitate';. There are no rules, because they are not regulated. However, they are NOT allowed to mess with threatened or endangered species.

I am personally opposed to people taking injured wildlife and attempting to repair and rehab it. It is contrary to Nature. Also, wildlife belongs to the public, no one individual has more rights to any wildlife, for any reason, than anyone else.

    Is wildlife a zoology topic?

Is wildlife a zoology topic Like I DONT WANT ANYTHING ELSE JUST ALL ANIMALSIs wildlife a zoology topic?
Zoology is the study of animal life. Not the study of zoos or zoo animals. Is wildlife a zoology topic?
Yes. Anything doing with animals is zoological.
    yes

Are wildlife preserves good or bad?

i am doing a speech on the pros and cons of wildlife preserves for class thought it was an easy topic and it is harder than i thoughtAre wildlife preserves good or bad?
The pros are fairly straightforward - a small piece of the environment is saved, and hopefully some of the species of wildlife it contains.

However, the danger is that the buffer zone of habitat around the edge is devalued and no longer looked upon as important. Habitat degradation and development then marches right up to the edge.

People's attitude can change - they think that the job of conservation is done.

Also, it is unlikely that the reserves are large enough to support sustainable populations of various species.

We need a good network of reserves, good corridors of habitat to allow free movement of wildlife and better general environmental protection for all areas. Are wildlife preserves good or bad?
They can be a good thing , but this one time i saw on this documentary on tv were i saw this really poor african woman in africa get arrested and taken to jail because she killed this goat-like animal ( i don't remember what it was ) to feed her kids because she had no food to give them nor a job to get money to buy them food ... so i think they are a good thing because they help preserve our planet but they should also try and help all the ppl that depends on hunting , foraging or cultivating the places that become protected before they just say you can't feed your family from here anymore
If a creature is a part of where it lives, then even if you preserve animal species in a controlled unnatural environment, the whole ecosystem gets tipped.

Think of it like this: What if the sea levels rose slowly to where sharks who are sophisticated figure how to capture some hand-fulls of us in those little snow globes under the water...would we really be human without the land. I doubt we would be fulfilled...
If they are designed to preserve indigenous life they are great if ';things'; have to be introduced issues can arise,
    There are no cons.

Why Africa is so rich in wildlife?

because the good climate help them a lot let's renember that the biggest creatures like dinosaur lived in warm ,tropical places similar to africa. And where the climate is hot there are lot's of plants therefore lot's of herbivores therefore lot's of predatorsWhy Africa is so rich in wildlife?
Primarily all continents were rich in wildlife. Civilization with its high population density, extended agriculture at the expense of pasture ,factories, plenty of vehicles, noises, political instability, wars, pollution, all these help very much in the reduction of wildlife. Game animals need a very quite isolated natural environment. Why Africa is so rich in wildlife?
This is partly due to the tropical/equatorial location of most of Africa. A warmer climate means plants can grow year round, providing ample food for many creatures large and small. It also enables a great variety of thermophilic life, such as reptiles, to survive. Also, Africa has remained largely undeveloped compared to Europe.
Megafauna (which is what you're talking about, I believe) exist on Africa today largely because the ancestors of Rhinos, Lions, Hippos, et al adapted to living in the presence of intelligent upright primates. American and Australian megafauna did not, and thus were able to be driven to extinction with neolithic technology. Asia and Europe's Megafauna did not suffer as greatly as America and Australia's, you can still find Asian Elephants and Lions, after all. I am of the belief that the reason for megafauna extinctions in Eurasia is not maladaptation to humans of neolithic technology, but rather because Eurasia was the source of some of the first advanced civilizations, which were able to make iron tools and manipulate their environment, and discovered these abilities too rapidly, in evolutionary terms, for most Eurasian megafauna to adapt, assuming they could.
Less people, less density of people.. In fact ALL of the Earth mostly was ';rich in wildlife'; -- from Brazil through Central America.. less people usually means more wildlife across temperature/landscapes that are more inhabitable. You tell me why there's not a whole lot of wildlife across China today, and how the habitat for the Bengal Tiger threatens its existance (vs. the population of India etc.)... vs. the huge reserves etc. for the African lion. Think about how the American landscape has changed since the 1830's -- of bison, wolves, even armadillo (thaks to the highway system), frogs, turtles, eagles, Florida panther, manatees vs. recreational motorboats.

Africa is a giant continent, and as different as Asia... and the wildlife is Asia varies from orangutans %26amp; mud puppies to large brown bears and elephants and tigers. Truth is, wildlife is rich everywhere, or at least was. There's less wildlife in Africa, across the northern Sahara and over to Egypt to Tunesia etc. because there's been people on horseback there hunting, eating, farming, etc. for 1,000s of years. Therefore, less lions etc. (but there were). In Europe for example, did you know that there were elephants? and 100,000s of bears %26amp; wolves (no more, but in the old fables %26amp; fairy tales of yore)...

Africa is diverse from larger animals to ones nearly/never associated with the continent -- like flamingos %26amp; ostriches %26amp; pelicans.. because of the expanse, the land mass, and the relative lack of human exploitation/population booming in ration with the land... Think France %26amp; Germany and 1,000s of years of war, famine, marauding, Roman Empire depleting Europe's alligators %26amp; hippos (!!!!!!!!!) for sport and amusement in the colissuems dotting the Empire.. Think England vs. Madagasgar.
Africa is NOT the richest in wildlife. South America is. You are probably thinking only of large animals, but there are far, far more small animals than large ones on this planet.
It is not the riches in regards to wildlife. Many more animals have gone extinction in Africa then any other continent. The vast majority due to habitat destruction and hunting. South America currently holds the widest variety and numbers of many species.
One theory is that humans evolved there and the native life that survives is somewhat adapted to exist with us while large animal life on other continents has often disappeared after humans arrived.

Is it possible to combine these two fields with GIS? If so, what type of experience work should I get involved in, or what classes should I take?

(My B.S. is in Geography w/ five years experience in GIS.)

In Australia, I would suggest a Diploma in Community Development, or a Degree in Human Science - Community Development, there must be some sort of equivalent where ever you are.I'm in the GIS field and would like to get involved in humanitarian affairs, or wildlife refugee.?
Contact any of the big agencies and express an interest. I guarantee they'll find something that uses your skills.
You can probably get a job with the US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, or even a non-profit to do all their wildlife management mapping. You might also try an environmental consultant firm...they always need GIS people.
There are many companies and organizations that use GIS for more than pasting together Google maps. They use it for crop management, geo-social analysis, etc.

I'm sure you'll have plenty of opportunity to use those skills in the field you prefer.

If you want more selection in careers, I'd recommend an MSc.

Thanks for any help.I'm in the GIS field and would like to get involved in humanitarian affairs, or wildlife refugee.?
Yes, it is possible to combine humanitarian/wildlife work with GIS. One common aspect of studies regarding human wildlife conflics, for instance is in determinig how land is being used. The past practice in the past was to conduct ground truthing, and some areas were not easy to access such that this could be unpractical. The use of GIS, however, allows the use of infra-red to be able to determine vegetation cover while only identifying a comparative source via ground truthing. An example of this is in a comparrison between aerial photographs from the Tana River preserve in Kenya from the 1970's with satellite imagery from 2002. The comparrison seemed to indicate that the forest size had infact increased over this period while infact after groundsourcing it became evident that the forest had infact been converted to fruit crops (bananas and mangos) in many areas thus appearing as forests. The use of modern GIS could more easily allow the interpretation of monocultures versus typical forests which are mixed by using the infra-red spectrum thus eliminating as much need for ground truthing and also allow less acessible areas to be understood more easily (with regard to their composition) without the need to actually go there so long as easier accesible areas of the preserve that represent a similiar spectral analysis have already been identified. The reason why I know all this is because I'm describing one of my wife's study areas and what has been proposed for more clearly indicating the effect of the local people on the endangered primate species from that area. Even her curret PhD thesis is utilizing GIS to identify where past bomas were located in the laikipia area (bomas have a distinctly different vegetation) so that she can determine how these landscapes effect baboons. My wife's course load has consisted of a few GIS courses, but because of the seperation between the fields of GIS and anthropology/primatology there were no courses that were directly applicable to what she wants to use GIS for in the future. I'm sure that you could get work/volunteer experience, however, with scientists doing similar work to my wifes around the globe. One of my wife's closest friends has used GIS in South Africa for the aquaculture industry along the coast (that was his PhD) and is currently working in Madagascar in a government project that somehow uses his GIS skills to help develope their application of agriculture. I have an agroforestry nursery in Kenya (humanitarian) and I could easily see how I could utilize GIS for my project as well. If a GIS survey could be used to determine the exact soil types across my district then I could better advise farmers on what types of trees should grow well without the need to ground truth and sample every farmers farm. That could be a Masters or PhD thesis right there :)

What is wildlife and why we love wildlife?

Wildlife is not necessarily wild animals roaming in Africa.

But it is often found in the beauty around you, like the bee's at work gathering pollen and the birds chirping in the morning.

We love it not only because of the beauty in it, but also the desire within us to be free and not caught up in the hustle and bustle of our human lives!

Also I think God is clearly seen in Wildlife.

Nature.......Natural.......beautiful..鈥?wonders...wild.......free...What is wildlife and why we love wildlife?
Wildlife is the term used that refers to animals in their natural environment: jungle, forest, grasslands, mountains, etc. People love wild life beacuse they like to look at animals in their natural, untamed state. Such animals are a curiosity.

My turtles are wildlife turtles i think they would be happier in the wild should i let them go???

their names are:terney tony tiger and troy. ps terney is pregnet??My turtles are wildlife turtles i think they would be happier in the wild should i let them go???
hey, if you found your turtles in the wild and took them home i hate to say this but it'd probably be best to let them go. UNLESS. if youve had them for a while, because you'd be taking care of them and when they get in the wild they won't be used to not beeing hand fed and stuff like that.

p.s. i would see a veteranarian or pet doc about Terney. or someone who knows about reptiles and turtles. My turtles are wildlife turtles i think they would be happier in the wild should i let them go???
No - if you have had them for more than 3-4 months and/or bought them as captive turtles you should NOT release them! They are used to being fed and will not know how to survive in the wild as they can not fend for themselves after being in captivity for so long. Also - if you release them into the wild they might carry bacteria on them that the native population isn't immune to or vice versa.. It is not a good idea.

Your best bet is to find an organization that can either adopt them out or rehabilitate them back to the wild slowly. If you need help in finding one please let me know your area and I'll help you..

    You can try looking here:

    http://www.turtlehomes.org/usa/index.sht鈥?/a>
If you found them in the wild, the wild is where they should stay. You can buy a captive bred turtle. The difference between captive bred and captured turtles is turtles in the wild will know the difference between being taken from their home %26amp; put in a habitat, it will be torture. They are able to roam in the wild %26amp; go wherever they want. Captive breds wouldn't know the difference because they've always been in a habitat. You should really let them go. It will probably be tough to let them go because you're probably attached to them.

But how long ago did you take them out of the wild?
Do not release them unless you can put them back in the same exact body of water they came from!

red ear turtles are an established pest in many parts of the world, due to ignorant keepers that became bored with them.

Good question. I don't know, but I am equally interested in their positions on animal welfare-that is, their positions on pound seizure(for labs, etc.), treatment of lab animals, humane slaughter, etc. I know that on the issue of the environment, particularly global warming, their views are quite similar, though Clinton's are the most detailed, and Obama copied her stances to the letter. I know McCain has many more pets than either of the other two candidates.Presidential Canidates on wildlife?
    Pretty much the same.
Unfortunately, as important as those things are to some people, they are not what will make or break a candidate, so they talk very little. I assume they all three will say they are conservationists, yet still for progress.

    Whats a wildlife conservation?

Wildlife includes all non-domesticated plants, animals and other organisms. Domesticating wild plant and animal species for human benefit has occurred many times all over the planet, and has a major impact on the environment, both positive and negative.

Wildlife conservation are projects taken up to preserve the various existing species and protects our heredity along with this it also encourages eco-tourism .Whats a wildlife conservation?
A wildlife conservation is a area of land where wild animals can live and reproduce without fear of pressure from hunters. Development or anything that might change the natural habitat.Whats a wildlife conservation?
It is an area of land protected by law. It prohibits poachers/hunters and allows animals to live exactly as they would naturally. :)

True of false and why: water resources include farmlands, grazing lands, soil, minerals, forests, and wildlife

I say false. They are resources of one type or another, but not water resources. Some are resources affecting water resources and water use, but are not directly related to the water.

Do you have any information or picture related to India's bioreserves, national parks or wildlife sanctuaries ?

India has the following kinds of Protected areas, in the sense of the word designated by IUCN. As of May 2004, India has 156,700 km虏 of surface area designated as protected areas, roughly 4.95% of the total surface area.

National Parks (IUCN Category II): India's first National Park was Hailey National Park, now Jim Corbett National Park, established in 1935. By 1970, India had 5 National Parks; today it has over 90.

    See: National parks of India

Animal Sanctuary (IUCN Category IV): India has over 500 animal sanctuaries, referred to as Wildlife Sanctuaries. Among these, the 28 Tiger Reserves are governed by Project Tiger, and are of special significance in the conservation of the tiger. Some wildlife sanctuaries are specifically named Bird Sanctuary, eg. Keoladeo National Park before it attained National Park status. Many National Parks were initially Wildlife Sanctuaries.

    See: Wildlife sanctuaries of India

Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO designation roughly corresponding to IUCN Category V): The Indian government has also established Biosphere reserves, which protect larger areas of natural habitat, and often include one or more national parks and/or preserves, along buffer zones that are open to some economic uses.

    See: Biosphere reserves of India

Reserved Forest and Protected Forest (IUCN Category IV or VI, depending on protection accorded): These are forested lands where logging, hunting, grazing and other activities may be permitted on a sustainable basis to members of certain communities. In reserved forests, explicit permission is required for such activities. In protected forests, such activities are allowed unless explicitly prohibited. Thus, in general reserved forests enjoy a higher degree of protection with respect to protected forests.

See: Reserved forests and protected forests of India

Conservation Reserve and Community Reserve (IUCN Category V and VI respectively): These are areas adjoining existing PAs, which are of ecological value and can act as migration corridors, or buffer zone. Conservation reserves are designated government owned land from where communities may earn a subsistence, while community reserves are on mixed government/private lands. Community reserves are the only privately held land accorded protection by the Government of India.

See:Conservation reserves and community reserves of India

Village Forest and Panchayat Forest (IUCN Category VI): These are forested lands administered by a village or a panchayat on a sustainable basis, with the habitat, flora and fauna being accorded some degree of protection by the managing community.

    See: Communal forests of India

Private protected areas: These are regions which are owned by an individual or an organization / corporation not affiliated to the government or a communal body. Even though Indian legislation does not provide for protection of such areas, some NGOs are using land trusts to help in the conservation effort, and providing limited means of protection.

See: Private protected areas of India

Conservation areas: Conservation areas are large, well-designated geographical entities where landscape conservation is undergoing, and usually contains different kinds of constituent protected areas, as well as privately owned land.

    1. A large no. of species are at risk from human activities which destroy their habitats. 91% of all endangered plants, 89% of all endangered birds and 83% of all endangered mammls, according to the IUCN. There are no precise figures for the other categories of living organisms, which are less well known. A number of particularly rich habitats are currently suffering irreversible damage: forests, arid and subarid regions, wetlands and coral reefs. The causes of extinction is mainly the destruction of wildlife's habitat. including deforestation, degradtion of coasts etc.

    3. WCS INDIA

India is a mega-diversity country that is particularly rich in vertebrate fauna. This is a result of its unique biogeography, evolutionary and social histories. It has faunal elements from the Indo-Malayan, Afro-tropical and palearctic regions. For example, out of the 226 extant carnivore species in the world, 52 species, including lions, hyenas, tigers, wolves, snow leopards, leopards and 3 species of bears, occur in India, with even the cheetah being extirpated only fifty years ago.

The country has an ancient culture that views humans as a part of nature rather than as its masters; that shows a higher degree of toleration for other life forms compared to any other part of the world. Partly as a result of this - and partly due to India's colonial history - several effectively protected nature reserves have been established during the last thirty years. These now cover about 5% of the land area. However, there are formidable challenges to 'saving wildlife' in India: a billion strong human population largely dependent on land-based occupations; a high degree of reliance on biomass for fuel, energy and structural materials; excessive livestock densities - all now supplemented by a modern consumerist economy growing at 10% a year; rapidly changing cultures and attitudes towards wildlife. However, the major social and ecological transformations that we are now seeing in the rest of the tropical world - such as forest conservation and fragmentation - had occurred in India over a thousand years ago.

In this context, Wildlife Conservation Society - India program focuses on charismatic endangered megafauna in protected reserves - as the most appropriate social tactic for saving biodiversity. During its 13 years of development, WCS-India program has blossomed from a single research project to encompass all the major strategies now pursued by WCS globally: research, capacity building, policy interventions and site-based conservation.

The law doth punish the man and woman

who takes the goose from off the common

But lets thy greater felon loose
