What is UNIQUE about Australia's wildlife?

The MOST unique thing about Australia's wildlife are 'monotremes'. Look it up. No other animals in the world are like our 2 monotremes! Platypus and echidna.

The BEST thing about Australia's wildlife

is that provided you are not right in the middle of a large city, wildlife is everywhere.

I live in the Aussie bush and I regularly have kangaroos (red and grey), koalas, possums, goannas, bandicoots, freshwater yabbies, tawny frogmouths, flying possums, wallabies, lace monitors, bearded dragons, kookaburras, magpies and more, that come within metres of my back door!

The only downfall is the snakes and spiders that are so unique to Australia too!!!What is UNIQUE about Australia's wildlife?
...and because the environment is so hard, a lot of the animals have evolved to be venemous (snakes, spiders, fish).

Its really interesting to see the Natural History Museum over here. Its a little different to the other Natural History Museums in the World (London, Dublin, New York - a few I have been to) as the animals are sooooo weird. They really are uniquely different.

: - )What is UNIQUE about Australia's wildlife?
what is unique it's what is in the sea, the corail wall and all the fish that the life is based uppon this.
marsupials
The UNIQUE thing about our wildlife is that it comes from here and no where else.
koalas, kangaroos, wallaby's dingos,
The Kangaroo is very unique - obviously the powerful tail is how they move - very fast and with amazing balance and agility. They can also concieve and then 'hold' the embryo in the womb until they are ready. A Kangaroo can also feed two joeys at once with different kinds of milk according to the nutritional needs of a baby. My parents have 4 pet kangaroos.
Fresh water yabbies coming to the back door???

I had no idea this country was so unique!

Good one Sparky! - liked that!
where else would you see kangaroos hopping down the street, or koalas falling out of trees

:-)
Kangaroos
We have the most poisonous snakes, spiders and marsupials in the world. Of the 23 most poisonous snakes in the world, 20 are Australian, including all of the top 10. We have the two most poisonous spiders, the Funnelweb and the Red Back. Even the male platypus, that cute little marsupial, has enough venom to kill a human.

Kangaroos can kill or seriously injure with one kick; a koala can kill a large dog (Saw a koala take out a German Shepherd once); not to mention crocodiles, dingoes and drop bears.

It's a wonder any of us survived really.
